There is something about glass, the very stunning fact of its being a very, very slow liquid that tricks us into believing it is a solid. Under certain heat and conditions with a variety of colorings and surfaces and a conductivity of its own that is warm when warmed and cool when cooled, it is an intriguing experiment each time. It is magical and metaphorical and meditative. Each piece is unique, because it is fashioned by hand and eye and the process is--no matter how exact the cut of the knife (which in my hands is far from exact), an experiment. The conditions of the oven, the copper elements I love to add because they glow red under glass, all influence the atmosphere inside the kiln, and voila, the outcome is somewhat unexpected. Having grown up in a mixed media family a Chemist and a Nurse who were natural artists scattered from the winds of the world, Buenos Aires and Poland to Israel and New York and Chicago--science and art have always held me in thrall.
